The CPI(M)-led opposition LDF in Kerala today flayed the tax proposals in this year's state budget, presented in the assembly today, and said these would result in steep price rise of all commodities.
Addressing a press conference, Opposition leader and CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan said Finance Minister K M Mani failed to address the main issues and problems faced by the people.
"Mani has not even spared children by hiking tax on bakery items. Clothes also would become costlier due to imposing of tax on textiles," Achuthanandan said.
While Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said budget proposals would not have direct affect on common man.
"Efforts have been made to mob up resources without affecting the purse of people," Chandy said, adding it is a high-tech budget.
Meanwhile, autorickshaw and taxi workers have called for a 12-hour strike on January 28 to protest against tax proposals for motor vehicles.
