Liam Payne protects girlfriend from online abuse

One Direction star Liam Payne says he is protective about his girlfriend Sophia Smith and tries to defend her from online abuses.

The 20-year-old singer says he is worried Smith will be offended if she reads any hurtful comments written about her on social networking sites, reported Contactmusic.

"I do it lots because I worry she might read it ... In the end she's just a girl like u sat reading Twitter on her phone. She doesn't deserve to sit and read all that - who does?" he said.

The star previously defended his band's followers on the social networking site.
 

Besides Payne, the Irish-English boy band consists of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.
