Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen M M S Rai today said defence personnel are falling prey to lifestyle diseases.
"I have noticed that our officers continue to fall prey to lifestyle diseases which to my mind are preventable," Rai, GOC-in-C of Eastern Command, said at a medical conference at the Command Hospital.
He said awareness through higher education can provide a solution.

On military doctors, Rai said they have a dual responsibility of fulfilling their roles as soldiers and doctors.
"We need to nurture good military values at all times," he said, adding that the human dignity of a patient should be at the forefront for doctors.
Underscoring the need to remain updated regularly on the phenomenal knowledge-explosion in the field, the Army Commander pointed out that with easy access to Internet, the clientele was also becoming increasingly aware.
