A court here was urged on Friday to monitor the probe against former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Jagmohan Yadav, booked on the charges of land grabbing, rioting and forgery, to ensure free and fair investigation.

The petitioner alleged police did not book Yadav and others under appropriate sections and registered the FIR against him for petty offences.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Niharika Jaiswal sought a report on the FIR filed against Yadav at Gosaiganj police station in the city.

The court fixed August 16 as the next date of hearing.

Yadav was booked on Thursday and 60 other people for rioting, cheating, criminal trespass and intimidation and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, police said.

The complainant alleged the former DGP and his men carrying weapons had threatened him on his property on August 6.

ASP (Rural) Vikrant Veer said the complainant Vijay Singh Yadav, son of late minister Balram Singh Yadav, has alleged the former DGP was trying to grab his land.

The UP Housing Board too had registered an FIR against the former DGP in 2017 in connection with the same land spread over three bighas in Gosaiganj area.

The board alleged that the former DGP was trying to grab the land.
