Maha allows transfer of village pastures for development

Image

Press Trust of India Mumbai
Maharashtra Assembly today passed an amendment bill which enables the government to allot 'gaay-raan lands', meant as free pastures for village cattle, for public or private development projects.

The bill amended the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code.

However, if the project is private one, the individual or the firm proposing the development must transfer compensatory land to the state government in the same village in return for the allotment of gaay-raan land.

The compensatory land should be twice the area of gaay-raan land and not less in value. Such compensatory land will be used only as a free pasture or source of fodder for the village cattle.
