Maha edu official, teacher held for taking Rs 1 lakh bribe

An Education department officer and a private school teacher were nabbed by Anti-Corruption Bureau here for allegedly accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe from an assistant teacher, an official said today.

"Anil Gaonkar, Education Deputy Inspector, Jogeshwari and Subash Amne, a teacher with a Mahim-based school in Mumbai were caught while accepting Rs one lakh from the complainant yesterday," said Thane ACB police inspector, Hemant Kumar Patil.

He said Gaonkar and Amne had sought the money from the complainant to allow him to join duty as the Assistant Teacher in a school.

"They had allegedly accepted bribe of Rs 11 lakh in the past and wanted Rs 3 lakh more from the complainant," an ACB release stated.
 

They have been charged under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
