Maha Govt to open regional PWD office in Naxal-affected area

Press Trust of India Mumbai

As a part of the initiative to bring development to Naxal-hit areas, the PWD is undertaking construction of three big bridges across Godavari, Indravati and Pranhita rivers at an estimated cost of over Rs 332 crore collectively.

Bhujbal feels that construction of roads and bridges in these areas will help in curbing Naxal activities, a spokesperson for the Minister said in a statement here today.

The work on a bridge across Godavari near Chitampalli village on state highway no. 9 is estimated to cost Rs 186 crore.

With no bridge on Godavari river nearby, people have to cross by boat to reach Andhra Pradesh border. After the bridge is constructed, Hyderabad will be just 250 km from Sironcha.

The bridge over Indravati is proposed at Pattgudam village, and is estimated to cost Rs 157 crore. The project has been approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
