Man held for mocking minority community's festival on WhatsApp

A shopkeeper here has been arrested for allegedly making some "objectionable" post on a messaging platform against a festival of a minority community.

The trouble started last evening when Mukesh Kumar, who runs a shop in the city, allegedly posted in a WhatsApp group mocking the festival and the post went viral.

The comments by Mukesh created a flutter among the minority community as soon as it went viral by the evening police said.

"The members of the community closed Mukesh's shop, staged a protest in front of the Kotwali and tried to block the road in different areas," Deputy SP Chakra Pani Tripathi said.
 

He said the protesters were pacified after assurance that the accused would be arrested promptly.

Mathura SSP Babloo Kumar said Mukesh was arrested by the Kotwali police by the night.

"Situation is normal, however, as a precautionary measure, police personnel have been deployed in the area," Kumar said.

He said the group admin issupposed to take prompt action in case some objectionable matter in circulated in the group.

"Admin would immediately eliminate objectionable matter and ensure that the same is eliminated by everymember of his group, even if he has to approach the members personally," he said.

Mukesh has been arrested under relevant sections of the IPC and the IT Act.
