A man has been arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 35 lakh.
The accused was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival from Mumbai yesterday. "On suspicion, the officials carried out personal examination and they found that he had allegedly concealed over one kg gold in his rectum," said Vinayak Azaad, Additional Commissioner of customs at IGIA.
Five pieces of gold weighing 1.170 kg were recovered from the passenger. The value of the recovered gold, which has been seized, is assessed to be Rs 34.80 lakh, he said.

"He works as a driver. It appears that he was lured into gold smuggling for money," Azaad told PTI today.
The accused has been arrested, he said.
