Man held with suspected explosive materials, arms in Kolkata

A man has been arrested here for allegedly possessing a huge quantity of suspected explosive materials, arms and ammunition by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police.

Tapas Das, a resident of Tangra in the eastern part of the city, was rounded up last evening from the EM Bypass with 36 kg ash colour powder and 50 kg white colour powder, suspected to be explosive materials, Deputy Commissioner of Police, STF, Amit Javalgi, told PTI.

The STF also recovered a pistol and two arms (7.65 bore), a money bag containing cash of Rs 3,450 and a debit card bearing his name.
 

Das, suspected to be a supplier of arms and explosive materials, is being interrogated to unearth details about the arms and ammunition found on him, Javalgi said.

He was today produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, which remanded him to police custody for 10 days, Javalgi said.
