A man was sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment by a local court today for the murderous attack on former Odisha Minister Maheswar Mohanty and grievously injuring him.
Chief Judicial Magistrate of Puri, Bidhan Kumar Chand pronounced the jail term for Mahara Bhoi(34) after convicting him for the attack on Mohanty, then Panchayati Raj minister, at a gram panchayat election meeting on January 30, 2012.
Another person was acquitted for lack of evidence.

The court sentenced Bhoi to rigorous imprisonment for four years under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) and three years under Section 324 of IPC (grievous hurt).
Both the sentences would be served concurrently.
The court also imposed fines of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for the two offences respectively.
Mohanty was attending the gram panchayat election meeting at Brahman Alandi when Bhoi had hit him from behind with a crow bar, causing him grievous injury.
Police had registered a case against six persons under various sections of IPC and subsequently arrested two persons including Bhoi.
