Meghalaya CM calls on Prez, other Union ministers in New Delhi

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today called on President Ram Nath Kovind and other Union ministers in New Delhi, and apprised them about the new welfare initiatives of the state government.

Kovind expressed his desire to visit Meghalaya soon, and asked Sangma to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of Central schemes in the state, an official release said.

Sangma also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) R K Singh.

The Meghalaya CM sought Swaraj's intervention on road connectivity between Bangladesh and Meghalaya, and the Union minister assured that the issue would be taken up in the North East Chief Minister's Meet to be held in New Delhi on May 4, the release said.

 

Swaraj said that all Central assistance would be extended to Meghalaya and other North Eastern states for improving relations with neigbouring nations to enhance trade and cultural ties.

Sangma also urged Gadkari to expedite the ongoing road projects in Meghalaya, it said, adding, the minister assured that all roads in the state would be improved and enhanced with priority.
