"Suits" creator Aaron Korsh said actor Meghan Markle's upcoming royal wedding with Prince Harry has had a massive impact on the "awareness" about the hit show.

Markle, who plays Rachel Zane in the series, is set to tie the knot with the British royal on May 19.

Korsh said the legal dramedy used to get "linear TV ratings" earlier, which now have "exploded."

"Without a doubt it's jacked up our visibility. All we really get is linear TV ratings and those were not affected as much by (the romance), but in terms of awareness of the show It's exploded. Any time somebody in your cast that finds someone and falls in love is great - whether they're famous or not," he told New York Post.

Korsh said there were some "logistics involved" in shooting the seventh season, which included "heightened security" as the romance caught steam.

"There were some days we knew Meghan couldn't shoot, which is common with actors. But on set it was the same as always. In terms of within the family of the show it felt the same to me."

Besides Markle, her on-screen fiance Patrick J Adams is also leaving the series after the upcoming spell.

"Having them both leave at the same time has allowed us to give them a happy ending. Had one (actor) left before the other, we might not have been able to do that," Korsh said.

The exit of the two characters in the final episode of season seven will serve as a backdoor pilot for Jessica Pearson's, played by Gina Torress, spinoff series.

Season eight will have Katherine Heigl as a new entrant.

"Suits" seventh season went on air on Comedy Central in India from today.
