Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today said that fire continued to ravage the forests in the state despite coordinated efforts made by the church, NGOs and the government.
Inaugurating the 'Fire Prevention Week', Lal Thanhawla lamented that human beings were responsible for destruction of forests but humans and wildlife have to co-exist.
State Environment and Forests minister Lalrinmawia Ralte said that fire incidents in the state was the highest in the country and one third of forest fire in the north east region occurred in Mizoram.
The theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week was "Ram tikangtu-Ram hmelma' or those who start forest fire are the enemy of the land.
