The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the State Government to implement the recommendations of the MP Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) over shifting of liquor shops from the densely located areas within a month.

MPHRC had recommended sometime back to the state government to shift liquor shops from the densely located areas as they were causing inconvenience to school and college students.

However, the Commission's advice was overlooked by the state government which led the Commission to file a petition in the High Court.

During its first hearing itself on June 19, the bench of Justice K K Trivedi gave its verdict in favour of the Commission.

The bench directed the State Government to implement the recommendations of MPHRC within a month of receiving the court order.

The Commission received the Court order on July 2.

The court rejected the government's contention that liquor shops were set up as per the provisions of the Excise Policy of the state.
