A murder case here today took a dramatic twist after the key accused succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
Rohit Sharma (27), a key accused of murder of Rohit Sabharwal (21), who had died in a brawl that had taken place on the intervening night of August 22-23 at a roadside eatery here, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital at Jalandhar, police said.
Sabharwal, a resident of Jalandhar had earlier died in the brawl that had taken place between two groups in a roadside eatery near village Khajurala on the National Highway 1, police said.
Police had on August 23 arrested two youths Vinay Sharma of Jalandhar and Amar Nath alias Balla of Amritsar, both belonging to Rohit Sharma group, in connection with the murder of Sabharwal.
Both were on police remand, police said.
Five persons, including Vinay Sharma and Amar Nath alias Balla, were booked under various Sections of IPC, including 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) on a complaint of Kunal Malhotra, a friend of the deceased.
The others including Sumit Randev and Kaka Electrician, both of Jalandhar were still at large, police said.
Rohit Sharma, a resident of Amritsar and the key accused, was in hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Sabharwal, who had gone to the restaurant to attend a birthday party of his friend Sahil Puri, was knifed to death by another group during the brawl. Another group of youths was already dining there on the adjacent table. The groups had an altercation when one group had objected to the rowdiness of the another group.
Sabharwal was killed while four others were injured in the brawl. Two culprits were arrested on a complaint of Sunil Malhotra, friend of Sabharwal.
Police said now statement of the another group will be recorded and similar Sections of IPC including 302 (murder) will be invoked against the complaining group in the wake of rival group's Rohit Sharma's death.
