Naxal surrenders in Telangana

A Naxal - Gajarla Ashok alias Atihu today surrendered before police in the district.

'Athiu, a 'Dhandakaaranyam Maoist Committee' member turned in before D.I.G. B Malla Reddy, a police official said.

A native of Velishala village in the district, Athiu taking inspiration from his brother Gajarla Saaraiah alias Aazaadh joined in the outlawed CPI-ML Maoists in 1991.

Initially, he worked with Thakkallapalli Vasudeva Rao alais Aasanna for Warangal town and then worked in Palakurthy, Bhoopalpally, Stn-Ghanpoor, he said.

He was also a member of several Maoist Committees in Telangana.

Since 2008 to till date he was working as Dhandakaaranya Special Zone Committee member, the officer added.
 

Police said, prima facie health problems could be the reason behind Athiu's surrender.
