The West Bengal government today appointed new chairpersons for ten development authorities functioning under the urban development department.
Urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim will be the chairman of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority and Furfura Sharif Development Authority.
Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari has been appointed chairman of the Haldia Development Authority and fisheries minister Chandranath Sinha in Sriniketan-Santiniketan Development Authority.
These bodies, constituted under the purview of West Bengal Town and Country (Planning & Development) Act, 1979, play a pivotal role in planned urban development, preparing land use development and control plans, strengthening urban infrastructure and undertaking trans municipal and rural-urban development projects.
