Nirupama Rao bereaved

Meempat Narayanikuttiyamma, mother of former Indian Ambassador to the United States, Nirupama Rao, died in the Air Force Hospital here today due to age-related illness.

She was 88 and leaves behind three daughters--Nirupama, Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan and Dr Asha, family sources said.

Her husband, Lt.Col. P V R Menon of Malappuram in Kerala, pre-deceased her. Sudhakara Rao, husband of Nirupama and former Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka and Vice-Admiral B Kannan are her sons-in law.
