Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today saluted bravery of Babu Kuer Singh and said the state government is organising a three-day function to let people know more about the hero of first war of Independence in 1857.
In order to make the 160th year of "Vijayotsav" to mark victory of Babu Kuer Singh a big occasion, the CM accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi visited his native Jagdishpur village in Bhojpur district and latter attended a few functions in the state capital too.
The CM addressed a meeting at Jagdishpur. Sushil Modi, Union power minister and Ara MP R K Singh, state Art, Culture and Youth Minister Krishna Kumar Rishi, Industries Minister Jai Kumar Singh and Tourism Minister Pramod Kumar also addressed the meeting at Jagdishpur.
Addressing the public meeting, Kumar said that "Today is the 160th years of the victory of Babu Veer Kuer Singh over Britishers...The three day functions are not only symbolic one rather it is being organised to let people know more about the great son of the country."
"We organised Prakash Parv on the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh jee Maharaj followed by Shukrana celebrations. We also celebrated centenary year celebrations of Champaran Satyagrah...Similarly, I thought to organise a three-day functions on the great hero of 1857 war, Babu Veer Kuer Singh," the CM said.
Kumar and Modi with a host of other leaders paid tributes to Veer Kuer Singh at a function held at a park named after Kuer Singh in the state capital.

The CM unveiled the life-sized statue of Kuer Singh which has been shifted to the park named after him from R Block roundabout in the state capital.
He also unveiled terracota murals depicting Kuer Singh's life sketch at the park, an official release said and added that the CM also directed officials to have more pictures relating to the hero of 1857 on other walls of the park so that people get to know more information about him.
Kumar, who paid a visit to Kuer Singh's fort at Jagdishpur, also dedicated to the people the newly built art gallery at Veer Kuer Singh memorial museum.
He also inaugurated and laid foundation stones through remote for various schemes for renovation of various places relating to Veer Kuer Singh, it said.
"There is a need to seriously think over it as what was the need for Babu Veer Kuer Singh to wage a war at the age of 80 years. Kuer Singh posted victory (over Britishers) with the help of all sections of the society," Kumar said.
Apart from cultural programmes, a national level convetion (sangosthi)will be organised on April 25 where people from across the country would be invited, he said adding that experts will present their thoughts in detail about Kuer Singh's role.
Later, Kumar inauguarated cultural programmes at S K Memorial hall in the state capital besides participating at a laser show programme at Veer Kuer Singh park in Patna Depicting his (Kuer Singh's) acts of bravery.
