"There is no decision at present to amend the RTE Act," HRD Minister Smriti Irani said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

The minister, however, said during the consultations with the state governments for formulation of New Education Policy (NEP), the issues related to no detention policy were also discussed.

Irani said 18 states have so far given their views on the no detention policy with some suggesting modifications to it.

In a written reply to another question, Irani said suggestions for the NEP have been received from stakeholders across the country and wide consultations have been held.

Suggestion on NEP have been received from nearly 30 minority institutions, she added.

The HRD Ministry has set up a committee for formulating the NEP under the chairmanship of former Cabinet Secretary T S R Subramanian which is expected to submit its report by the end of this month.
