North Zone leg of Junior Badminton C'ship ends

The North Zone leg of PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship 2015 ended today with eight shuttlers emerging victories in four different age categories at the Thyagraj Stadium, here today.

Neer Nehwal (BS U-9), Vartika Singh (GS U-9), Anmol Joon (BS U-11), Anya Chauhan (GS U-11), Chayanit Joshi (BS U-13), Sneha Rajwar (GS U-13), Karan Negi (BS U-15) and Unnati Bist (GS U-15) were the winners from the North Zone.

The tournament, organised in association with Sara Foundation, approved by Badminton Association of India (BAI) and supported by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), saw the participation of 680 children, who competed for last four days for the coveted scholarships.
 

The tournament was open to shuttlers under the age group 9, 11, 13 and 15 years and received over 700 entries from all the northern states of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Subhasish Acharya, Chief Distribution officer, PNB MetLife said, "I am delighted to see the enthusiasm and talent among children. We are announcing scholarships for 4 underprivileged children who would be helped with fees, equipment and miscellaneous costs with our NGO partner CRY.

"We have 8 zonal winners from the other category and they will receive cash prizes today and qualify to play finals with the best across India in March 2015. We have announced 8 national scholarships to be given away to the national finalists."

The championships are being held in all four zones (East, West, North and South). The Quarter finalist from four different zones will qualify for the Grand Finals in March here.
