A nurse in eastern China was today sentenced to death on charges of killing her fiance, by giving him sleeping pills and injecting insulin over a dispute on their wedding plans.

Due to an argument over the delay of the wedding, Tao, a nurse with Shanghai No.6 People's Hospital, offered water with sleeping powder in it to her fiance, surname Luo, at her residence on April 1 last year.

After Luo fell asleep, she injected him with a large amount of insulin, according to the Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court.

She obtained the sleeping pills, syringe and insulin from the hospital.

Luo was later found dead by his relatives. He died from respiratory and central nervous system failure, state-run Xinhua news agency reported .

The court also deprived the defendant of her political rights for life after convicting her of intentional homicide. She did not say whether she would appeal.
