A government nurse was arrested here today for allegedly asking bribe from a couple for issuing money which is given to mothers on the birth of girl child under a state government scheme.

Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) Asha Joshi was arrested for asking money for issuing a cheque for Rs 3,625 to Nenu Devi who gave birth to a girl child at a Sub Health Centre at Nevra Road in Osian sub-division of Jodhpur on January 11, said acting DIG, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Narpat Singh.

Nenu Devi was to get the cheque under the Janani Surakhsa Yojna (JSY) scheme of the government.

"Her husband Kewlaram approached the ANM of the centre Asha Joshi for the cheque. But Joshi demanded Rs 1700 as bribe for issuing the cheque," said Singh.

Kewlaram gave her Rs 500. But when Joshi insisted on being paid the remaining Rs 1,200 also, he complained to the ACB.

"After verification of the complaint, we laid a trap and caught the ANM while taking Rs 1,200 from Kewlaram at the anganwadi Centre of the village," said Singh.
