Members of the Odisha Gram Panchayat Employees' Association today gheraoed the official residence of Panchayati Raj minister Arun Kumar Sahoo to press their their two-point charter of demands.
About 6,204 peons working in various Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the state, gheraoed the minister's residence seeking action on their two-point demand charter, including regularisation of services of Grade 4 employees.
They also demanded a monthly salary of Rs 1,500.

Though Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned a salary of Rs 1,500 per month for these employees about a year ago, the decision has not been implemented yet, alleged the agitating peons.
The association, however, called off its stir after holding discussions with the minister who assured them that the government would look into the matter.
"Discussions are on and their demands are under consideration. I have invited the employees for another round of discussion and assured them of government help" said Arun Kumar Sahoo.
