Odisha urban local bodies poll tomorrow

A total of 1,50,186 voters will exercise their franchise in eight urban local bodies where polling are scheduled to be held tomorrow.

After the end of a high-pitch campaigning, arrangements have been made for polling at civic bodies in the state like Balimela, Sunabeda, Dharmagada, Tusara, Daspalla, Rairakhol, Paradip and Belpahar.

Counting of votes would be done on April 8.

State Election Commission R N Senapati had earlier announced rescheduling of polling at Ranpur civic body after anomalies were found in seat reservation. The polls for the Ranpur civic body would be held on May 5.

Of the five civic bodies, three were municipalities like
 

Paradip, Belpahar and Sunabeda, while the rest five were notified area councils. There were 129 wards in eight ULBs where 469 candidates had been in the fray, Senapati said.

The people would cast their votes in 183 polling booths of which 115 have been identified as sensitive. CCTV facilities have been made in 18 such booths, Senapati said adding 183 presiding officers and 594 polling officers have been engaged in election duty.
