The hearing on a petition seeking to stay the January 22 by-elections to fill the vacant post of the Cuttack Mayor remained inconclusive in the Orissa High Court today.

Justice B K Nayak adjourned the hearing till tomorrow as the petitioner's counsel and the SEC lawyer presented their arguents.

The by-poll schedule has been fixed by the State Election Commission (SEC).

The petition was filed by one Kanaklata Naik, a resident of Ward No 21.

Meanwhile, in the absence of any interim order from the High Court, the State Director of Municipal Administration, who is the election officer for the post, is going ahead with preparations for Friday's by-poll.

All the corporators of the city have been intimated to take part in the election, CMC Commissioner Gyana Das said.
