Panchayat functionaries boycott meeting

At least 55 members of Burdwan Zilla Parishad, panchayat samities and gram panchayets today boycotted the meeting of Panchati Raj sammelan organised by state government demanding transparency in the recruitment of staff at all tiers of the Panchayati Raj in the district.

These members, comprising 8 karmadhyaksha of Burdwan Zilla Parishad, gram panchayat and panchayat samity demanded transparency and following their recommendations in the recruitment in the village councils.

Arundhati Sen said, "The recruitments are being made arbitrarily ignoring our recommendations. We will resign en-masse if our grievances are not addressed by the district magistrate.
