Press Trust of India Kochi
: Kerala High Court today directed the Drugs Controller General of India and Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation to file an affidavit on a PIL complaining of unethical clinical trials on patients.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P V Asha issued the direction on a petition filed by Jananeethi, a Thrissur based NGO.

According to the petitioner, clinical trial on patients was unethical and violation of fundamental rights. These trials were done without obtaining informed consent from patients.

Stating that the risk of side effects of trails were not communicated to patients, the NGO sought formation of ethical committees for each trial.
