A 12-year-old boy was asphyxiated to death after a 'gamcha' (traditional cotton towel) accidentally got tied as a noose around his neck while he was playing with his sister in Howrah district today, police said.
The class VI student, Vivek Kumar Thakur, was playing with the 'gamcha' with his 8-year-old sister in their house at Fakirbagan Lane under Golabari police station.
The 'gamcha' accidentally got tied as a noose around his neck and the boy fell down on the floor from the cot on which they were playing, police said.
When the Vivek was taken to hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
