More than 36 hours after the body of a Ravenshaw University girl student was found on railway tracks, the police are yet to establish the cause of her death.

The Plus III first year student, who stayed in the university hostel, had gone out for marketing on Thursday evening and her mutilated body was found in a pool of blood on the railway track near Gopalpur on the outskirts of the city.

A train ticket and poison were found in her bag.

The police yesterday seized handwritten letters from her hostel room.

The police also sought the assistance of the telephone service provider to obtain her call detail records which were apparently deleted from her mobile phone.

"We have asked the BSNL authorities to provide the CDRs, so that we can examine the persons who were in touch with her," a senior railway police officer said.

The post mortem report of the victim was also sought from the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

While police believe the case to be either an accident or suicide, the father of the girl alleged that the police were unable to investigate the case properly.

"Why are the police claiming that the seized documents from my daughter's room are suicide notes when they are hand written letters" he questioned.
