Activists of People's Party of Punjab (PPP) today demanded naming of the upcoming international airport at Mohali as 'Shaheed-E-Azam International Airport'.

The activists took out a protest rally from the airport to Deputy Commissioner office in Mohali.

"We are demanding that the name of the upcoming airport at Mohali should be changed to Shaheede-Azam International Airport as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country," Kirat Singh, PPP, Mohali unit President said.

The party also submitted a memorandum to Mohali Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Sidhu regarding the issue.

Singh noted that the Centre had given its nod to name the airport as Shaheed Bhagat Singh or Shaheed Udham Singh International airport earlier.

"But why it's name was changed to Chandigarh International Airport, is not clear," he said.

The upcoming airport is an extension of the domestic airport at Chandigarh and the work on the project is nearing completion. The international terminal is coming up at Mohali, adjacent to Chandigarh city.
