Pudu CM urges PM to convene Cauvery River Authority meet

Press Trust of India Puducherry

In an official letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to media, he said that "the water realisation of Cauvery distribution at Karaikal situated at the tail end of the river on the east coast depends on the realization from Krishnarajasagar Dam in Karnataka".

He said Karaikal region was supposed to receive six tmc water from June to January every year as per the interim award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal but it had not been realised.

Karaikal entirely depends on the distribution of river water for the water supply and other industrial requirements, he said.

He requested the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Cauvery River Authority, to convene the authority's meeting at an early date and to find an amicable solution.

He thanked Prime Minister for the support to the development of Union Territory and pointed out that all the regions "are marching towards progress by implementing various state and Centrally funded schemes".

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has already demanded convening of the CRA meeting, citing non-release of water by Karnataka as per the tribunal's interim order.
