In a stern step to improve the participation of its MLAs in intra-party deliberations on key legislative issues, the Rajasthan BJP has imposed monetary fines on 22 of its state legislators.
Deputy Chief Whip Madan Rathore of the BJP's state legislature party said 19 out of the 22 MLAs were imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each for their failure to attend its legislature party meeting, held in the assembly building here.
Rathore said two other MLAs were slapped a penalty of Rs 500 each for reaching the meeting venue late, while the party Parliamentary Secretary Laduram Vishnoi had to pay Rs 1,000 for being late.
Vishnoi was imposed heftier fine for being late as he had reached late despite the crucial official position which he holds, said Rathore adding the party has stuck to this system for the last several years to maintain intra-party discipline.
