Panick gripped Kuniamuthur area in the city, following reports of movement of a leopard with its cub in the early hours of yesterday, forest department sources said today.
A woman in EB Colony coming under Idayarpalayam in Kuniamuthur had noticed through the window of her house early morning yesterday nthe
animals passing through and informed the neighbours, they said.
Based on information, Forest Department officials rushed to the spot and noticed faint foot marks, resembling of pug marks, in the area, they said.
Some department officials kept vigil in the area for the entire day yesterday, but no trace of the animal was found. Moreover, the leopard used to attack and kill dogs coming in its way, but no no such incidents were reported.
Coimbatore forest range officer R G Sekar, who conducted night partolling on Thursday, said that he again visited the area today and pug marks were noticed.
Till the department ascertained whether it was a stray dog or leopard, the people were requested to not to venture out in the night. Sekar said.
