Retired army man cheated of Rs 48,000 in ATM fraud

A retired army man has been allegedly scammed of Rs 48,000 in an ATM card fraud, police said today.

Jagtar Singh, a resident of Bagthala village, alleged that a caller posing himself as a bank representative had contacted him recently, they said.

The caller convinced Singh to give his ATM code and bank details to issue a credit card. Later he received an SMS on his phone that Rs 48,000 had been withdrawn from his account, police said.

Upon inquiry with the bank he found a fraudulent withdrawal had been made, they said.

A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated, police added.
