An RTI activist escaped unhurt after two bike-borne men shot at him in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar area allegedly because he filed an RTI query over illegal construction, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday when Surjit Singh was standing outside his home.

He was abducted by three persons who took him to an isolated place nearby, said a police officer, adding that he somehow managed to escape.

When the accused saw him running away, they opened fire but Singh managed to escape unhurt, he said.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Mayur Vihar police station and three persons have been detained by police in this connection.

Singh has alleged that he had filed an RTI query against illegal construction in the area which upset some builders who hired goons to attack him, police said.

The police are investigating the matter.
