Shubha Mudgal, Rajan Sajan Mishra, and Savita Devi will be among the leading artistes performing at the upcoming eighth edition of the Thumri festival here.

The festival, beginning on September 14, will celebrate over five-century-long history of thumri in Hindustani classical music.

The three-day event, organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad, will be inaugurated by Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia and Minister of Social Welfare Rajendra Pal Gautam at Kamani Auditorium.

"Delhi's much awaited Thumri festival is a wonderful opportunity for music lovers. Besides being part of our musical heritage, Thumri is also a treasure-trove of exquisite poetry.

"The government of Delhi is proud to present a fabulous line-up this year, representing distinct styles of the genre. Through our efforts on social media, we hope to reach out to a new audience who will join us for the festival this year," Sisodia said in a statement.

The musical event will start with the performance of Padmaja Chakraborty, Jayteerth Mevundi and Shubha Mudgal.

On the second and third day, the festival will feature performances by artistes like Nila Sinha Roy, Kumud Diwan, Rahul-Rohit Mishra, Indira Naik, among others.

It will come to a close on September 16.
