A new building for blood bank will come up at the premises of the Sambalpur District Headquarter Hospital here.
The existing building of blood bank is in a dilapidated condition and devoid of certain facilities.
In-charge of Sambalpur Blood Bank, Shalila Mishra, admitted that patients were suffering because of the absence of required facilities in the existing building.

"The inflow of patients to Sambalpur District Headquarter Hospital has increased considerably. Around 800 to 900 units of blood are collected from the Blood Bank every month. However, the existing building does not have required space and facilities for such a huge number of patients," Mishra said.
The new building, to be constructed near the office of the National Health Mission on the premises of the hospital, will solve the problems," she said.
"We have also proposal to set up a Blood Component Separation unit at the Blood Bank after it is shifted to the new building," Mishra added.
The estimated budget of the new blood bank building is Rs 1.63 crore. National health Mission will provide fund for the building, while Public Works Department will execute the construction work.
"The foundation stone for the building was laid recently and construction work will begin soon," said District Program Manager of the National health Mission, Manoranjan Sahu.
