The Supreme Court today appointed former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice J N Patel as interim chairman of Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which manages the affairs of the famous hospital in Mumbai.
A bench headed by Justice A K Patnaik passed the order in view of ongoing legal battle among many members of the trust.
It said an interim Board of Trustees comprising the two permanent trustees, Charu K Mehta and Rekha H Sheth, and Justice Patel, will function till the court decides the legal dispute.

"We direct that an interim Board of Trustees comprising the two undisputed permanent or lifetime trustees, namely, Charu K Mehta and Rekha H Sheth, and Justice J N Patel, former Judge of the Bombay High Court and former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court as its Chairman will function till this Court decides the Special Leave Petition," it said.
Justice Patel will be entitled to a fee of Rs 1 lakh per meeting of the Board of the Trustees from the funds of the hospital and will have the power to convene a meeting of the Board of Trustees as and when such a meet is required to be held for transacting any business including passing of budgets.
