Voicing concen over the plight of helpless and vulnerable unmarried woman aged over 40 years, Rajya Sabha member Renubala Pradhan has urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to launch a new scheme to provide monetary assistance to them.

The condition of such unmarried women after death of their parents was found to be very miserable, particularly in rural areas. They were leading helpless life and vulnerable to sex abuse with some of them forced to work as maids in other houses, she said.

"We have launched several welfare schemes for almost all sections of the people in the society. But un-married women are waiting for the government help", she said in a letter to the chief minister recently.
