AFP Mexico City
Police in northern Mexico have found the bullet-riddled bodies of seven men who were killed near the US border after a drug smuggling run, authorities said.

The bodies were found Wednesday afternoon in a pick-up truck on a hill in an area called El Ejemplo in the state of Sonora, near the border with the US state of Arizona, police said yesterday.

An eighth man who survived the attack told the authorities that he and the victims had just moved drugs "when they were intercepted by several subjects who attacked them," Sonora's investigative police said in a statement.

Four of the victims were identified as men between the ages of 23 and 29. The survivor, who was 25 years old, was hospitalised with a bullet wound.

Around 80,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico in the past seven years.
