Nagaland Governor P B Acharya today stressed the need to "supplement" conventional degrees with career-oriented courses.
Addressing the annual conference of Nagaland College Principals' Forum here, the governor said educational institutions play an important role in nation-building by strengthening and empowering youths.
Stating that skill development is the "driving force" behind the financial growth of any country, he called upon the principals to impart "adequate knowledge" to the students to make them job-ready.
"Our students, when they come out of colleges, should be employable," Acharya said, while maintaining that it was important to empower young minds with moral values so that they do not turn out to be "self-centred".
The president of Association of Indian College Principals, Subhash Brahmbhatt, said they would strive to raise the standards of education in the state.
Brahmbhatt also encouraged the principals to vie for NAC accreditation, as it would be "crucial in the years to come".
