To support the Centre's gold monetisation scheme, officials at the Somnath temple have deposited 6 kg of pure gold bars (of 0.995 fineness) at Bank of Baroda's Somnath branch.
Somnath temple is located in Somnath Gir district of Gujarat and is one of the 12 'Jyotirlingas' in the country.
"After getting instructions from Shree Somnath Trust Chairman Keshubhai Patel and Secretary Pravin Laheri, 6 kg of gold bars was today deposited at the Somnath branch of Bank of Baroda," General Manager of the trust Vijay Chavada told PTI.
Under the monetisation scheme, banks are authorised to collect gold for up to 15 years to auction them or lend them to jewellers from time to time.
