Startup Village here is conducting a free workshop this month for schoolchildren to familiarise them with Raspberry Pi computer and encourage them to start coding and developing apps right from school.
The workshop, to be held from May 19 -30, is open to students from Classes VIII to XII. The first 30 students registering online via www.Startupvillage.In/raspi will be selected to attend, a press release said.
Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit card sized single- board computer developed in the UK by the charity Raspberry Pi Foundation. It is designed to teach young people to program and understand how computers work.
It is capable of doing most tasks a desktop computer can do - from browsing the internet and playing high definition video to making spreadsheets, word processing and playing games.
The Raspberry Pi has been widely acknowledged as a valuable educational tool that can spark children's curiosity and orient them towards the future of technology.
"When hundreds of students start using the latest technology to learn, we will have a talent pool that will build the technologies of the future," said Sanjay Vijayakumar, the Chairman of Startup Village.
Pranav Suresh, chief operating officer of Startup Village, said the workshop is a pilot for a wider project to educate the next generation of entrepreneurs.
