A groom was shot dead at point-blank range here allegedly by his cousin during a function ahead of the his wedding, police said today.
"Yesterday evening, people from the girl's family had come to finalise some rituals. While, Dipak was performing these rituals, the accused allegedly came down from the roof side and shot him dead at point-blank range," area Station House Officer J N Asthana said.
20-year-old Dipak's marriage was scheduled on May 18.
The accused Amit, escaped with four of his friends, who were helping in the function preparations from the morning.
"Body has been sent for post-mortem and searches are going on to nab the accused," Asthana said.
