State govt official caught while recording proceedings of HC

Press Trust of India Chennai

A court staff found the man, identified as A Venkatesan, working as Assistant Section Officer attached to Home (P&E) Department of the Secretariat, recording the proceedings with his mobile phone.

Inquiry revealed that he had neither obtained permission or pass from the security authorities before entering the court premises nor did he obtain any written permission for attending the proceedings.

The Division Bench, comprising Justices K N Basha and N Paul Vasanthakumar, which was hearing the case said, "it is crystal clear that he appears to have interfered into the administration of justice during the court proceedings. Hence he is hereby called upon to explain as to why action for contempt of court proceedings could not be initiated against him."

His phone was seized and has been handed over to the Registrar General of the court and the matter was posted for tomorrow.
