Concerned over the sharp increasein the population of stray dogs in the last 3-4 years, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has decided to carry out a sterilisation drive.
"The sterilisation of stray dogs will be carried out ward-wise in Jammu city. After sterilisation, anti-rabies vaccination and post-operative care for 3-4 days, these dogs will be dropped in the same locality from where they were picked," JMC Commissioner Manmohan Singh said here today.
As per the census of stray dogs conducted by the JMC in 2014, the number was 42,000, out of which 35,000 were in the city, while 7,000 were on the outskirts and in army areas. That number has now gone up to over 49,000.
