A sub-engineer posted with the Water Resources Department here was caught red-handed today by the Lokayukta Police for taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor for clearing his bills.
Acting on a tip-off, Lokayukta Police laid a trap and caught sub-engineer Suresh Bhalse while accepting Rs 20,000 from contractor Naushad Khan in lieu of clearing his bills, Lokayukta Inspector, Yuvraj Singh Chouhan said.
The engineer was caught from his residence at Ganga Nagar Colony here, he said.
Bhalse was posted at Bhikangaon and had demanded money from Khan for clearing his bills for construction of a pond worth Rs 3 crore, Singh said adding a case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
