Supporter of gram pradhan candidate beaten to death in UP

The supporter of a gram pradhan candidate was beaten to death allegedly by the opposite party in Kandhai area, police said here today.

Mushtaq (35) was brutally assaulted allegedly by outgoing gram pradhan Mahipat Saroj and his supporters after polling was over near Pandari polling booth last night, they said.

Police said that Mushtaq was taken to the district hospital from where he was referred to Allahabad medical college, but succumbed to his injuries midway.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered, they said, adding that further investigation is underway. Police force has been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
